Shopping for a new bed is no small feat. From sleeping style to design, there are so many considerations to account for on your mattress quest—double that if you sleep with a partner. Going to a mattress store can be overwhelming (to say the least), and sometimes it’s just nice to shop somewhere that feels familiar—somewhere like Walmart. Turns out, the mega-retailer carries plenty of mattresses from brand names you know and trust, like Sealy, Casper, and Serta. And, best of all, they have plenty of beds available at super low prices, many of which are lower than other retailers (because that’s kinda Walmart’s whole thing, isn’t it?). Trust us—don’t snooze on these legit deals.

The best mattresses at Walmart, at a glance:

    • Best hybrid: Cocoon by Sealy, Medium Hybrid Mattress, $434
    • Best budget-friendly hybrid: Zinus, Quilted Hybrid Mattress, $188
    • Best foam mattress: Leesa, Original Memory Foam Mattress, $1,099
    • Best cooling foam: Serta, EZ Tote Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress, $379
    • Best cooling hybrid: Casper, Snow Hybrid Mattress, $1,995
    • Best traditional innerspring: Beautyrest, Silver BRS900, $1,122

The best mattresses you can find at Walmart

Editor’s note: All of the prices listed below reflect a queen-sized mattress.

Best hybrid: Cocoon by Sealy Medium Hybrid Mattress — $434.00

Sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, King, Cal King

    Firmness: Medium

    Thickness: 10 or 12 inches

Walmart carries plenty of brands you know and love, including Sealy, which has been a household name since 1881 (yes, really!). This memory foam hybrid from Cocoon by Sealy is a great option for most sleep types thanks to the spring coil base and top layer of plush gel foam. It comes in either a 10- or 12-inch height, and has reinforced edges so you can really sprawl out. Plus, the breathable knit cover adds an extra layer of comfort.

    • Two height options to choose from
    • Combination of cooling gel and springs is great for hot sleepers
    • 10-year warranty and 90-day free returns
    • Bed-in-a-box means you’ll need to get it into your home and set up yourself
    • Cover is spot-clean only

zinus quilted hybrid mattress at walmart

Best budget-friendly hybrid: Zinus Quilted Hybrid Mattress — $188.00

    Sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, King

    Firmness: Medium-Firm

    Height: 8 inches

Another hybrid option at a ridiculously low price, the Zinus Quilted Hybrid combines individually-wrapped steel coils with soft, CertiPUR-US-certified foam. It provides a supportive, medium-firm feel that’s great for back and stomach sleepers, and a quilted cover for an added touch of softness. At 8 inches tall, it’s the thinnest bed on this list—that might not be a dealbreaker for you, but it’s worth noting.

    • Low price
    • Combination of coils and foam provides a firm surface for back and stomach sleepers
    • Comes with Zinus’ 10-year warranty and 90-day free returns
    • Thinner profile than other beds on this list
    • Comes in a box, so you’ll need to bring it in and set it up yourself

leesa original memory foam mattress at walmart

Best foam mattress: Leesa Original Memory Foam Mattress — $1,099.00

Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King

    Firmness: Medium

    Height: 10 inches

Leesa entered the mattress world as one of the first bed-in-a-box companies—and now you can find their fan-favorite Original Memory Foam mattress at Walmart. The design uses three layers of Greenguard Gold and CertiPUR-US-certified memory foam, all wrapped in a breathable, quilted cover. Because the foam does such a good job of reducing motion transfer, it’s a great pick for couples or anyone who shares their bed with a pet. All foam mattresses like this tend to be softer, so the Leesa Original is a better fit for side sleepers, combination sleepers, or anyone who likes to feel cradled in bed.

    • 3 layers of certified foam
    • Comes with Leesa’s 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty
    • Soft, breathable cover
    • May not be supportive enough for all back and stomach sleepers
    • Comes in a box, so you’ll need to bring it in and set it up yourself

serta ez tote cooling memory foam mattress at walmart

Best cooling foam: Serta EZ Tote Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress — $379.00

Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King

    Firmness: Medium

    Height: 10 or 12 inches

This pick from Serta (another longstanding member of the mattress community) is designed with three different types of CertiPUR-US-certified foam: a base layer for durability, a transitional layer for support, and a top layer made with cooling gel memory foam. It’s available in two different heights (10- or 12-inches) and the medium firmness makes it a good pick for strict side sleepers or smaller-bodied back sleepers. More importantly, the cooling gel will help memory foam lovers from getting too toasty at night.

    • Top layer of memory foam is infused with cooling gel
    • Shipped in a box that uses 25 percent less cardboard than other brands
    • Two height options to choose from
    • May be too soft for strict back and stomach sleepers or larger folks
    • Bed-in-a-box design means you’ll have to bring it in and set it up on your own
    • Warranty details are unclear

casper snow hybrid mattress at walmart

Best cooling hybrid: Casper Snow Hybrid Mattress — $1,995.00

Sizes: Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King

    Firmness: Medium

    Height: 12 inches

Casper’s coolest design yet uses a combination of individually wrapped coils, foam, and the brand’s proprietary cooling materials (including their “HeatDelete” bands, “PhaseChange” material, and a cool-to-the-touch “Snow” cover). Honestly, it looks like a jumble of marketing jargon, but Casper’s cooling tech does get pretty solid praise from hot sleepers. And, regardless of your sleep type, you’ll appreciate that the Snow Hybrid’s zoned support keeps your hips and shoulders in alignment for an ache-free morning.

    Read our full review here.

    • Cooling hybrid design is ideal for hot sleepers
    • Zoned support helps keep your body in alignment, no matter your sleep position
    • 10-year warranty
    • Shorter return window (30 days) than the other beds on this list
    • Priciest bed on our list

beautyrest silver brs900 extra firm mattress at walmart

Best traditional innerspring: Beautyrest Silver BRS900 — $1,122.00

Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, Cal King

    Firmness: Extra Firm

    Height: 13 inches

For a firm, traditional innerspring mattress, check out the Silver BRS900 from Beautyrest. While it might sound more like a robot than a bed, the BRS900 contains supportive coils, responsive memory foam, and a tufted topper for a luxurious feel. Its extra-firm feel and durability make it a great pick for strict back and stomach sleepers.

    • Innerspring design helps promote airflow and keeps things cool
    • Good support and durability
    • May be eligible for white glove (in-home) delivery
    • May be too firm for side sleepers or smaller folks

What to look for in a mattress at Walmart (or anywhere)

Regardless of where you shop for a mattress, there are a few key things to keep in mind:

    Firmness (and your sleep style)

First and foremost, you’ll want to look into how firm a mattress is before deciding whether it’s a good option for you. Brands often use their own “firmness scale” which can be sort of helpful, but it’s important to remember that firmness feels different to everyone depending on your body size and what position you prefer to sleep in.

Side sleepers and smaller-bodied people will need a softer bed with more cushioning to relieve pressure on their hips and shoulders. Larger folks and strict back or stomach sleepers will need a firmer mattress to keep their bodies in alignment. In general, memory foam mattresses tend to be softer, while hybrid designs that include springs offer more support.

    Breathability & cooling

If you sleep hot, keep your eyes peeled for hybrid designs or foam beds that use gel or other cooling materials. Because hybrid mattresses use coils, they provide a little more breathability and airflow than dense foam beds.

    Mattress height

Mattress thickness might not seem like a huge deal, but the height of your bed can make a difference in not only how you sleep, but how you feel about your bedroom aesthetic. You’ll also want to double-check that your sheets will fit—taller mattresses above 11 inches might require deep-pocketed sheets.

    Sleep trial, returns, and warranty

Because comfort is so subjective, you’ll want to note each bed’s return policy and warranty. Most beds on this list offered free returns within 90 days, which is helpful if you’ve not laid on the mattress before. It’s also important to read up on the warranty details for the bed you’re interested in, but also note that because Walmart is a third party, it’s worth checking with the brand directly that they’ll honor the warranty before hitting “purchase.”

Pros and cons of buying a mattress at Walmart

    Pros:

    • Walmart is a one-stop shop. Go ahead and add your favorite beauty products, that new sundress you were eyeing, and a mattress to your cart.
    • You can find plenty of big-name brands, like Casper, Leesa, Serta, and Beautyrest.
    • While some beds retail for the same amount on Walmart as they would on their own website, you’ll find plenty of lower-priced options and might even find additional deals on Walmart’s website (or in-store) throughout the year.

    Cons:

    • We noted it above, but it’s worth saying again: some mattress companies may not honor their warranties if you purchase from a third-party seller like Walmart. It’s always wise to call the brand and confirm that they’ll honor their warranty if you purchase via Walmart.
    • Most of the mattresses we spotted at Walmart come compressed and shipped in a box. That’s not unusual for mattresses these days, but you should note that you’ll have to get the bed into your home and set it up yourself (we recommend recruiting a second set of hands!).
