What is Fashion Month without a few off-the-wall accessories and beauty looks? In recent seasons, we’ve seen haunted doll false lashes at Prada, the viral glass doll skin by Pat McGrath at Margiela, a lifelike pigeon clutch from JW Anderson, and now, literal hair ties at Schiaparelli.
It’s less weird than it sounds. Or is it? Schiaparelli has always embraced surrealism and the absurd, including the infamous Kylie Jenner lion head dress and Kendall Jenner’s dress made entirely of fake nails. During their Fall 2024 RTW show in Paris, the Schiaparelli team took runway hair one step further and sent models out wearing neckties made of — you guessed it — hair.
While many of the models wore structured skirt suits and slinky gowns, several were dressed in slouchy, menswear-inspired pantsuits. In place of a classic necktie, each model wore a thick chunk of braided hair fastened to their collar. At first glimpse, it just looks like a regular ol’ necktie, the kind typically worn to the office, but when you zoom in, nope! It’s definitely hair, in shades of blonde and black, depending on the models’ outfits. (The contrast of bright platinum blonde with that denim-on-denim suit is pretty cool.)
